So long, Brad :(
Wow! It’s been weeks since I’ve posted anything on my blog. We’ve been a little bit busy lately… isn’t everyone? I guess a little bit it’s that I haven’t been in the mood.
I wanted to write a little something about Brad Renfro. I saw quite a few postings on the internet from people who didn’t know who he was. That doesn’t really surprise me because he’s been a little less conspicuous in the last few years. I have to say, though, I am a big fan of his work. If you don’t know who he was, maybe you didn’t see “Sleepers” or “The Client.” I also just recently for the first time saw “Tom and Huck” with him and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. That movie was good, but of course it’s a remake for at least the third time. The other two, on the other hand, were “must see” movies for me. They both had spectacular casts– as you may know, I love a big, famous cast! But, in both “Sleepers” and “The Client” my favorite actor was Brad Renfro. I don’t know if it was the characters he played or that he was such a terrific actor, but I just really, really loved him. I have not seen any of his movies since he’s grown up, but now that he’s gone I feel like I want to see them all. I’ll probably check out Roger Ebert’s website to see if he rated them highly or not first. I remember not too long ago Googling Brad Renfro, since I hadn’t seen any movies recently with him. I found a few that I hadn’t heard of and I think I was just going to wait for another big one from him. I guess that’s not going to happen now. It’s so, so sad. I will miss him.
I’ve seen a couple of movies in the past few weeks… well, probably more than a couple. My husband, sons, and I went to see “I am Legend” which I thought was quite good… no big cast, though. Then last week we all saw “Juno.” Oh my God! I thought that movie was sooooo good! I have to add that to my favorite movie list (remind me to do that, OK?) I haven’t been buying DVD’s too much lately (except for the kids) but I’ll be buying that one, I think.
We cancelled our Netflix, so now we’re back to frequenting Hollywood Video. We cancelled Netflix to save some money because we wouldn’t watch the movies and end up paying twenty bucks a month for the same movies several months in a row. Well, since cancelling, we’ve gone to Hollywood Video three or four times and spend $10 each time. We’re spending twice as much!… but at least we’re watching the movies. I finally saw that movie “Reign Over Me” with Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler. I really liked that one, as well. Oh yeah, we also rented Ocean’s 13, which I cannot believe it took me all this time to see it since it’s one of my favorite casts in movie history…I had forgotten that Pacino was in it!! I liked it better than the second one, but not as much as the first one. I could handle seeing one of those every year… like James Bond movies… they could go on forever! They can’t change the actors, though, and who knows how much longer Carl Reiner is going to be around (hopefully many, many years!) But, unlike James Bond, without Clooney, Pitt, Damon, Caan, Affleck, Mac, Reiner, Cheadle and Gould, it would never be as entertaining.
I just love movies!!!
